100 years old ..... but as modern as today
‘Biltmore’. Set on 1993m² of park-like grounds, right opposite Kings School is this absolutely fantastic family home. The exterior is very much as it was originally designed and is a classic example of English Arts and Crafts architecture. The authors of the book, ‘Coolangatta’ believe the house was designed by Bamford & Pierce, the architects of many cherished Auckland landmarks. Neligan House, The Kiosk in the Domain, and the now demolished Coolangatta in Remuera are other examples of their work. Bamford spent time working in the offices of Edwin Lutyen and this clearly helped form his understanding of the key elements of classic English architecture as evidenced in Biltmore.
But Biltmore is also very much a house ‘of today’. Modern service areas plus open plan living are balanced with ‘quiet spaces’ to cope with a large family’s formal and informal living requirements.
There are numerous options as to how you choose to live in the 560m² plus spaces. Five or six bedrooms, four or five living areas, a self-contained apartment or extra rooms for the home. The options are probably as many as most families’ needs would cover.
Add to this the size of the grounds, double garaging plus parking for at least ten other vehicles and you should never be short of space.
And Biltmore is set in the heart of the key-school area - Kings immediately opposite, St Cuthberts and Dio five minutes away, walking distance to Remuera Primary and the railway station for Kings College. Double Grammar Zone.
But putting aside the real practical benefits of living at Biltmore what will really make you want to call this unique property ‘home’ is the sheer style and modern European magic of the environment.
